Jim received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Montana, in Missoula, Montana, and is licensed to practice law in all state courts in Montana, as well as the following federal courts: United States District Court for the District of Montana, and the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. 

Jim is a retired Lieutenant Colonel, having proudly served his country as a member of the Montana National Guard from 1973 to 1996.  Having been a resident of Montana for his entire life, Jim is also deeply committed to his community, and is a member of the Montana Shakespeare Company as well as the Governor’s Council on Traumatic Brain Injuries.  He is the son of former Montana Supreme Court Justice William E. Hunt Sr., who retired from the bench in 2000.
