Brain Injuries

Traumatic Brain Injuries

Every year thousands of people suffer brain injuries that result in catastrophic personal injuries or death.  The term brain injury applies to an open or closed head injury resulting in impairment in cognition, language, memory, attention, reasoning, abstract thinking, judgment, problem-solving, and related sensory, perceptual and motor functioning. A person who suffers a traumatic head or brain injury may experience headaches, confusion, amnesia, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, double vision and ringing in the ears. A head injury victim may also have problems with concentration and short-term memory. In mild concussions, these symptoms may be temporary and last only a few hours. In cases of major head trauma, such as a fractured skull, these symptoms may continue for some time or be permanent. Long-term  symptoms associated with a brain injury include permanent memory loss, severe headaches, sleep disorders, fatigue, depression, and visual impairment.

Concussions & Skull Fractures

Brain injuries and traumatic brain injuries oftentimes permanently affect a person's ability to work and live a normal life.  In addition to the effects of a concussion or fractured skull discussed above, a brain injury can cause paralysis, loss of vital body functions, and even death. A person does not have to be involved in a high-speed car crash or suffer a concussion or fractured skull to sustain  a traumatic brain injury. Brain injuries can be caused by any type of negligent or intentional conduct, including Auto & Truck AccidentsMedical Malpractice, Slip & Fall Accidents, Construction Site Accidents, Work-Related Accidents, Semi-Truck Accidents, Dog Bites & Animal Attacks, Dangerous & Defective Products, Motorcycle Accidents, Premises Liability, Nursing Home Negligence & Elder Abuse.
